We were staying up the street and tired from a busy day, and not really hungry so we ventured out for a beer and light bite. The lady at the table next to me had the steak and I was sold. As a British tourist in a family of 3, we had to find an apartment in Prague that accommodated my disabled mother’s needs. Nothing in inner Prague so we stayed in the suburb of Krč. We had a look on Google Maps to find dinner nearby and this place came up with really good reviews, so we decided to go. First things first, its in a plain concrete building next to an automat. Don’t be warded off by this though… Food is fantastic and the service is great too. They spoke good english and were more than happy to help my mother with her needs. I had the “Bryndzové Halušky” from the Czech menu as I like to try new things. It was delicious! Another in my party had a burger which looked fantastic too. All in all, we were very impressed with Mattes and would return if in the area.

Excellent food and my favourite restaurant I discovered in Prague, as it was extremely close to my hotel and works late hours, which suited my late night dinner cravings (open until 11PM). Many delicious meals, I wish I tried more, I went twice out of my 4 nights in Prague. A lot of traditional Czech options as well. The staff are extremely kind, attentive and always a smile on their faces, especially the bearded waiter (never got his name). The place is very lively and filled with people. Felt very welcomed, even solo. For tourists visiting, the staff here speak good English, which is a bonus for someone like me who doesn't speak and understand only a little Czech. After walking a whole day in the center of Prague we felt like eating at a restaurant near the hotel but the more we walked the more uncertain we became about our choice of restaurant. The area is outside the tourist area and is a bit "slumbery" but what a positive surprise we got well inside the restaurant. It was cozy, nice music, the waiters were well dressed, spoke good English, were super nice and very service minded. The menus were both in Czech and English. The food was delicious and cheap! Excellent food and my favourite restaurant I discovered in Prague, as it was extremely close to my hotel and works late hours, which suited my late night dinner cravings (open until 11PM). Many delicious meals, I wish I tried more, I went twice out of my 4 nights in Prague. A lot of traditional Czech options as well. The staff are extremely kind, attentive and always a smile on their faces, especially the bearded waiter (never got his name). The place is very lively and filled with people. Felt very welcomed, even solo. For tourists visiting, the staff here speak good English, which is a bonus for someone like me who doesn't speak and understand only a little Czech. I enjoyed coming here while I could, if I ever visit Prague again, I will come back! Thank you for the good food and wonderful service. :)

After walking a whole day in the center of Prague we felt like eating at a restaurant near the hotel but the more we walked the more uncertain we became about our choice of restaurant. The area is outside the tourist area and is a bit "slumbery" but what a positive surprise we got well inside the restaurant. It was cozy, nice music, the waiters were well dressed, spoke good English, were super nice and very service minded. The menus were both in Czech and English. The food was delicious and cheap! Best food we had on our 12 day trip through Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. If we had more days in Prague we would have gone there again.

As a British tourist in a family of 3, we had to find an apartment in Prague that accommodated my disabled mother’s needs. Nothing in inner Prague so we stayed in the suburb of Krč. We had a look on Google Maps to find dinner nearby and this place came up with really good reviews, so we decided to go. First things first, its in a plain concrete building next to an automat. Don’t be warded off by this though… Food is fantastic and the service is great too. They spoke good english and were more than happy to help my mother with her needs. I had the “Bryndzové Halušky” from the Czech menu as I like to try new things. It was delicious! Another in my party had a burger which looked fantastic too. All in all, we were very impressed with Mattes and would return if in the area.

We were staying up the street and tired from a busy day, and not really hungry so we ventured out for a beer and light bite. The lady at the table next to me had the steak and I was sold. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised, sometimes unfortunately the opposite ... There are reserves but nothing is perfect and maybe I'll adjust the rating in time!! UPDATE 6.10.2019 : I recommend OKTOBERFEST IN MATTES :)... Paulaner and classic German food :) for this star from 3 to 4 :) UPDATE 29.9.2021 : Oktoberfest again in Mates, service in costumes, German decoration, Paulaner and German menu of specialties. Again 4* for me UPDATE 1.12.2021: Today's Mixed grill of roast pork and chicken breast with Gorgonzola cream sauce, broccoli and potato gnocchi was nothing special, it wasn't very flavorful and overall it was nothing special, very average... 29.7.2025 Update: After a long time visit and for me both the service and the pineapple lemonade were average. Steak well seasoned, portions smaller. Prices ok. 20.4.2026 Update: Definitely an improvement in homemade lemonades. Active service. Caesar salad excellent, bacon fried, meat well done, dressing super flavorful. Clean premises and toilets

Off the beaten path but right by our airbnb, this little pub has great Czech food, friendly staff, and CHEAP beer (I recommend the goulash with beef and dumplings and a kozel). If you end up in the area I highly suggest it. Plus if you're interested in seeing some of the taller Prague buildings they are right around here.
